SCOPE

SIMSIS-12 attempts to enable a useful exchange of information among researchers, scientists, engineers and practitioners in automatic control. The field of interest approached covers both theoretical viewpoints and experimental achievements in all areas of modeling, identification and control.

The long and well-established tradition of the Symposium makes us believe that the scientific debates between Industrial and University Researchers will generate new fruitful ideas, while tightening the cooperation links among the participants.

FINAL PROGRAM VENUE AND ACCOMMODATION

A complete map of Galati City is available. Location of the interest points during the symposium can be viewed on the symposium map
Location

Placed in the East of Romania, on the border with Ukraine, Galati is the fifth greatest city of our country. The inhabitants (about 400,000) are mostly Romanian, Orthodox Christian. The climate is continental, with hot dry summers (32 to 38 °C) and windy winters (-10 to 5 °C). Temperature at the end of September is 10 to 20 °C.

Economy

Located on the left bank of the Danube river, at 150 km from the Black Sea, Galati has quickly become an important commercial centre, the biggest Romanian inland harbor for sea - going ships. The long tradition of shipbuilding – over 100 years - has been recently reconsidered by involving the Dutch company Damen as the main shareholder of Galati Shipyard, the oldest in Romania. The complex Sidex S.A. – which has been recently become private – makes of Galati the biggest Romanian center for steel processing industry, occupying the first place in the national iron smelting production.

Cultural life

Since over 50 years, Galati is one of the main academic sites of Romania, offering, among others, unique training in naval engineering and food technology. There are 13 faculties within "Dunarea de Jos" University, from which 3 are located in Republic of Moldavia.
Some museums, theatres and other cultural sites sustain the cultural life of the city.
“Fani Tardini” Dramatic Theatre host every autumn the National Festival of Comedy - “Festingal”. Admirers of musical and operetta can enjoy the shows of the Musical Theatre “Nae Leonard”
There are three important museums in Galati. A valuable ethnographical collection from the county of Galati can be admired at the Museum of History, as well as important traces from ancient times and Middle Age. The Museum of Romanian Contemporary Art, set up in 1956, host a collection of about 3500 paintings, sculptures and works of decorative art. By visiting the Museum of Natural Sciences, one can find out more about the autochthonous flora and fauna.

Spare time and entertainment

There are three ** hotels - "Dunarea", "Galati" and "Sofin" - and two ***hotels - "Faleza" and "Vega"- which offer good conditions of accommodation in Galati. One who wants to enjoy the silence can take a walk in the Public Garden or along the Danube riverbank. This latter place offers a sculpture exhibition in the open.
There are also many restaurants, cafés and disco bars offering tasty traditional and European food, fine drinks and good music.
